TUNNICLIFF SIGNS ON LOAN

Weston-super-Mare AFC are happy to announce that left-back Will Tunnicliff has signed on a short-term loan from Taunton Town.

The 22-year-old can play in a variety of positions and has previous experience within the Southern League, having featured for Bishops Cleeve, Evesham United, Cirencester Town and Yate Town.

On signing Will, Manager Scott Bartlett said:

Will is a strong and athletic defender that did very well last season.

“Lairdy and I have lists of players in various positions and like Taylor Jones, he has become available at a good time for us”.

About Will

The young defender spent time in the Birmingham City and Cheltenham Town Academies before joining Gloucester City as a 15-year-old.

He progressed through the youth ranks and the under-18 side before signing senior forms with Gloucester in July 2017 after being involved in their pre-season programme.

That same month, he was sent out on loan to Southern League Division One South & West side Bishops Cleeve where he made 23 appearances and was an unused substitute once for the Mitres, assisting one goal.

During the 2017-2018 season, Will was also in and around the Gloucester City first-team squad, making three appearances and being an unused substitute five times.

In March 2018, Tunnicliff joined Southern League Division One South & West side Cirencester Town on loan until the end of the season. During his short spell with the Centurions, he made nine appearances and assisted three goals.

For the 2018-2019 season, the defender signed for Southern League Division One South side Evesham United. While there, he made 28 appearances and was an unused substitute four times, scoring three goals.

In the summer of 2019, Will returned to Southern League Division One South side Cirencester Town. At Ciren, he made 38 appearances during his second spell, scoring two goals.

In the summer of 2020, the defender signed for Southern League Premier Division South side Yate Town and was a regular within their team over the past two seasons, featuring 60 times and scoring two goals as well as assisting five times. He helped Yate reach the FA Cup First Round proper and was the recipient of Yate’s 2021-2022 Supporters’ Player of the Season.

Tunnicliff became Taunton’s first summer signing this season and was an unused substitute in their opening two league games.
