WESTON BACK AT HOME FOR HARTLEY WINTNEY FIXTURE
Weston are back at the Optima Stadium as they take on Hartley Wintney in another Southern League Premier South clash. The game kicks off at 12:30pm this Saturday, December 3rd.
Since the home victory over Poole Town on November 19, The Seagulls comfortably beat Yate Town 4-0 at Lodge Road, before last Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Beaconsfield Town, Weston’s first defeat in seven league games and the first league loss away from home this campaign.
Needless to say, The Seagulls will be looking to get themselves back on track as they host a somewhat unpredictable Hartley Wintney side, who are now managed by ex-Arsenal midfielder Ian Selley.
The Row have lost their last two games, both at home, against Merthyr Town last Saturday and Salisbury on the Tuesday before. Those two results have left Hartley hovering just above the relegation zone.
However, before those two reversals on their own patch, Hartley had won 2-1 at Hayes & Yeading thanks to a brace from Paul Hodges, who has impressive clubs on his CV after spells at Woking, Farnborough and Hayes, as well as Hartley in a previous stint there.
That win at Hayes two weeks ago is evidence of Hartley’s abilities away from home. Further proof of this was their excellent 2-2 draw at Bath City in the FA Cup earlier this season, so Weston will need to be at their best to get past their potentially tricky opposition.
In last season’s games between the two sides, the respective away sides claimed all three points. In September 2021, Hartley won 3-1 here in BS24 before The Seagulls gained revenge as Scott Laird’s stunning double earned a 2-1 win in Hampshire on the first Saturday of December 2021.
A repeat of that success on the first Saturday of December 2022 will be greeted with joy, as Weston will be searching for the win in what should be an open game of football in the lunchtime kick-off.
For this fixture, Weston will wear their pink away kit to raise awareness of homelessness as part of Shelter’s ‘No Home Kit’ campaign. Weston-super-Mare AFC are delighted to take part in this initiative.
