WESTON HEAD TO DORSET FOR POOLE TOWN CLASH
Weston are back on the road this Saturday, 20th August as they make the trip to the South Coast to take on Poole Town. The game at the BlackGold Stadium kicks off at 3pm.
Poole started their season with a convincing 3-0 win at Winchester, in a game that saw new summer signings Toby Holmes and Wes Fogden score on their debuts. However, Poole were to lose their first home game last Saturday as Tiverton ran out 4-2 winners in Dorset.
On Wednesday night, Poole made the long journey to Plymouth to take on Truro City. In that game, The Dolphins took an early lead at Bolitho Park but had to settle for a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
In the corresponding fixture between Poole and Weston last season, goals in the last twenty minutes from Dayle Grubb’s penalty, Jordan Bastin and Scott Laird sealed the three points that evening. To add insult to injury for the Dorset side, Max Harris then also saved a stoppage time penalty.
In the return fixture at The Optima in March, The Dolphins claimed a 0-0 draw in a game that saw Weston unable to convert a number of chances.
The Seagulls head into this game third in the league table after a fantastic start. Grubb took his season’s tally to three with a brace in the 3-2 win against Yate on Tuesday, including a 90th minute winner from the penalty spot. Reuben Reid also scored for the second consecutive game as his own good form continues.
With The Seagulls enjoying such an encouraging start to the season, another exciting clash looks likely.
