WESTON HEAD TO NORTH LEIGH IN LATEST LEAGUE AWAYDAY
Weston are back in Southern League Premier South action as they head to North Leigh this Saturday, 25th March. The match at Eynsham Park kicks off at 3pm.
The Seagulls will make the journey to Oxfordshire looking to get back to winning ways after last Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Met Police at the Optima Stadium. Weston fell behind to an early Ollie Knight strike, but gained a point after James Dodd’s first-half equaliser, his fifth goal of an excellent campaign for the former Exeter City midfielder.
North Leigh are currently third from bottom of the table, and will be looking for a positive result to try and escape an immediate relegation back to Step 4.
The Millers won promotion from Southern League Division One Central last season, despite finishing sixth in the table and outside of the promotion play-offs zone, as Welwyn Garden City were prevented from taking part.
In North Leigh’s last outing, they fell to a 4-2 defeat at Salisbury. However, results have improved recently under the stewardship of new manager Chris Allen, who was a player of some distinction at Oxford United in the 90s. Allen took over from another ex U’s player, Eddie Odhiambo, in November and Allen has steered his new side to six league victories in that time.
The Seagulls will be looking to complete a league double over their hosts, following Weston’s 3-0 home victory back in October. Lloyd Humphries scored a sensational goal from well outside the area that evening, as Scott Laird also joined the Welshman on the scoresheet with a couple of headers from well-worked set-pieces.
The last meeting between North Leigh and Weston at Eynsham Park was certainly an eventful one. The game took place in September 2016 in an FA Cup Second Qualifying Round tie. Weston, then in the National League South, suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to the then Step 4 side, in what proved to be Ryan Northmore’s last game in charge of The Seagulls.
Weston will return to Oxfordshire this Saturday looking for a more memorable result, as we quickly approach the final few weeks of the season.
