WESTON HEAD TO SWINDON SUPERMARINE IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE ACTION
Weston make the relatively short trip to Swindon Supermarine in the Southern League Premier South this Saturday, 4th February. The game at the Webbswood Stadium kicks off at 3pm.
The Seagulls will be looking to get back to winning ways following last Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to Truro City. This was only Weston’s third league loss this season, and on the previous two occasions Weston have bounced back well from each defeat.
Scott Bartlett’s side face a team who won their last league fixture following their game last Saturday. Marine travelled down to Dorset and returned home to Wiltshire after an exciting and impressive 4-3 win at Dorchester Town, who had been occupying one of the play-off places. A brace from Harry Williams and one each from Henry Spalding and Conor McDonagh were enough for Marine.
All of Swindon’s goals came in the second-half, and the forward players mentioned are well-known for their goalscoring exploits. They also have familiar faces in other areas of the pitch as former Weston players Jamie Edge and Will Tunnicliff are now plying their trade at the Webbswood. Tunnicliff had a good spell on loan from Taunton to Weston earlier this season, but may not feature after receiving a facial injury whilst scoring in the defeat to Westbury United in the Wiltshire Shield on Tuesday. George Dowling, another ex-Seagull, is also with Marine and may also miss out due to injury.
This is the second meeting this season between Weston and Supermarine. Back in September, in a Tuesday night fixture at the Optima Stadium, The Seagulls won by three goals to one. James Harding gave the away side a very early lead, but the home side then equalised on the stroke of half-time through Reuben Reid. Dayle Grubb gave Weston the lead right at the start of the second-half, before Marlon Jackson sealed all three points with the host’s third goal of the evening.
Since joining the Southern League in 2019, there have been four league meetings between the two sides, with the team playing at home winning on each occasion. Hopefully, this record will come to an end for The Seagulls this Saturday.
