WESTON HEAD TO TAUNTON TOWN IN SOMERSET DERBY

Weston play their penultimate game of the Vanarama National League South season as they make the short trip to Taunton Town this Thursday, 18th April. The match kicks off at 7:45pm.

This Somerset derby has huge significance as The Peacocks try and find a way to survive in National League South, with Taunton knowing that defeat to The Seagulls will see them relegated to Southern League Premier South.

Their cause was not helped by Tuesday night’s 2-1 defeat at home to fellow strugglers, Torquay United. In front of a bumper home attendance, The Peacocks found themselves 2-0 down at half-time. Taunton pulled a goal back early in the second-half through Ollie Chamberlain, but Rob Dray’s side were unable to prevent the loss.

Weston were also in action on Tuesday night, as both sides battle their way through the gruelling schedule. The Seagulls had substitute Jamie Soule to thank after his late equaliser earned a 1-1 draw with Eastbourne Borough, a result that will have given Taunton some added hope of staying up.

Weston will be hoping to complete a league double over The Peacocks after the 4-0 win over Taunton on Good Friday. In a memorable afternoon at the Optima, Bailey Kempster opened his Seagulls account, before top-scorer Reuben Reid doubled Weston’s advantage before the break. Sumptuous second-half strikes from Jordan Bastin and Keiran Thomas confirmed the win.

The Seagulls now head to The Peacocks for this vital Vanarama National League South clash looking for more of the same.
