WESTON HEAD TO THE CAPITAL FOR HENDON TEST
Weston head to London this Saturday, 18th February as they take on Hendon in the Southern League Premier South. The game kicks off at 3pm.
Weston go into this game having won their last two league games, a 4-0 victory at Gosport and last Saturday’s 1-0 home win over Hayes & Yeading United. Weston also played at Bridgwater United in the Somerset Premier Cup on Wednesday evening, with the youngsters putting in a valiant performance in the 1-0 defeat at Fairfax Park.
Hendon, meanwhile, have lost their last two league encounters, both at their Silver Jubilee Park home. Last Saturday, they were on the receiving end of a 2-0 defeat to relegation rivals Winchester City, before Tuesday’s 2-1 loss against Hayes.
Manager Lee Allinson was clearly unhappy with the nature of the defeat to Winchester, but was far happier with the application of his team in the Hayes game. Dave Diedhiou gave The Greens an early lead from a well-worked set-piece, before Hayes fought back and returned home with all three points.
Although Hendon’s form hasn’t been great lately, they are capable of good results on their day and contain good attacking threats. 2-2 draws with both Truro City in the league and with Chippenham Town in the FA Cup this season show that they can be a match for anybody.
This is the first time Weston and Hendon have faced each other this season. Last season, The Seagulls completed a league double over the London side and will be looking for similar fortunes in this campaign. In November 2021, Weston gained a 2-0 victory at Silver Jubilee Park after an early penalty from Dayle Grubb and a goal in the second period from Marlon Jackson, who was making his second Seagulls debut that day.
