WESTON HEAD TO TIVERTON TOWN IN BOXING DAY CLASH
Weston head down the M5 on Boxing Day as they visit Tiverton Town in the Southern League Premier South. The match in Devon kicks off at 3pm.
It will be the first league game for The Seagulls since the 4-0 win over Hartley Wintney on December 3. Tiverton have also seen their December disrupted by the inclement weather, their last outing was in their 2-1 home victory over North Leigh on December 6.
That night, The Yellows’ first goal was scored by Prince Henry, who’s on loan from Bristol City. Henry, of course, had a good loan spell with The Seagulls last season, and is one of a number of players in this fixture set to play against their old side.
As well as Henry, another ex-Weston player in the Tiverton ranks right now is striker Lucas Vowles. He joined Tiverton from Weston and has found himself on the scoresheet a few times for his new club already.
Another player who has found the net for Tivvy this season is our very own Alfie Moulden. He had a very productive loan spell with Town earlier this season. Since returning to The Seagulls, the talented Yorkshireman has netted twice in three away games, including grabbing the only goal in the Somerset Premier Cup win at Welton Rovers.
Moulden will no doubt be looking forward to facing his former side, and Jordan Bastin will also be in the same boat. Bastin joined Weston from Tiverton in May 2021 after a stellar spell at the Ian Moorcroft Stadium.
This is the first time Weston and Tiverton have faced each other this season. In the last campaign in the Southern League Premier South, there was a 2-2 draw at the Optima in August 2021, before The Seagulls claimed all three points with a hard-fought 2-1 victory in Devon in March 2022.
In the first game, Weston scored through Scott Laird and Nick McCootie, before goals from Lloyd Humphries and Sam Avery clinched an absolutely vital three points in the return fixture at the tail end of the season.
With Tiverton’s stadium less than an hour away from North Somerset, it’s likely that The Seagulls will be cheered on by a sizeable away following, in what will be the last fixture of an incredibly consistent 2022.
