WESTON HOST HENDON IN TUESDAY NIGHT CLASH

Weston are back at the Optima Stadium as they take on Hendon in the Southern League Premier South this Tuesday, 18th April. The matck kicks off at 7:45pm.

It is the last of three consecutive home games following victories in their last two against Tiverton Town and Merthyr Town. The success over The Martyrs came courtesy of Sam Avery’s late winner, his close-range finish bringing equal measures of joy and relief for the majority of the large crowd inside the stadium. The Seagulls could have scored more, but opposition goalkeeper Jaimie Cogman was in inspired form.

Hendon, meanwhile, were playing their second game in less than three days on the road on Saturday. After drawing at Hanwell Town last Thursday, Lee Allinson’s side then made the journey to take on Dorchester Town. Despite Niko Muir picking up a brace, they lost by three goals to two at The Avenue.

Muir signed from Hungerford Town in February and his goals have quite likely helped keep Hendon in the division. While The Greens are still not mathematically safe from avoiding relegation, demotion to Step 4 would now seem improbable.

In Muir’s first game back in his second spell at Hendon, he scored within two minutes of his debut against Weston at Silver Jubilee Park on February 18. However, The Seagulls fought back and equalised through Elis Watts. James Dodd then gave Weston the lead in the second-half before Hendon equalised almost immediately through Liam Brooks. But with time running out at the end of the game, Dodd grabbed his second to earn The Seagulls a valuable three points.

That game provided plenty of entertainment as both sides excelled in forward areas of the pitch, with the fans in attendance certainly getting good value for their money.

After attracting big crowds for the previous two home fixtures, we can expect another large gate at the Optima on Tuesday evening, in what promises to be another mouth-watering clash under the lights.
