Weston play their first Vanarama National League South fixture of 2024 as they make the trip to Weymouth on New Year’s Day. The match kicks off at 3pm.

The game comes just six days since the reverse fixture was played at the Optima Stadium on Boxing Day, as The Terras ran out winners by three goals to two.

It proved to be an entertaining and open affair, in an end-to-end encounter that, at times, resembled a basketball match.

Dayle Grubb gave The Seagulls the lead from the penalty spot after James Dodd was fouled by Teddy Howe. However, Weymouth equalised almost immediately through Harry Parsons, before taking the lead from Tom Bearwish’s header.

Moments later, Jason Pope then drew the hosts level with his first league goal of the season with an accurate strike from the edge of the area, to make it 2-2 at the interval.

But Bobby Wilkinson’s side claimed all three points after a winner from Brandon Goodship in the second-half.

There was a large, four-figure attendance at the Optima on Boxing Day, with plenty of Weymouth fans making the trip to BS24. Similarly, another big crowd including quite a few Weston fans are expected to head to the South Coast on New Year’s Day, as the travelling supporters hope to see their side get back to winning ways.

This is Weston’s first league trip to the Wessex Stadium since a 2-1 victory there in April 2010. Late goals from Clayton Fortune and Sam Clark earned an absolutely vital win. That season, Weymouth were relegated but it would have been Weston instead without that victory in Dorset. The Seagulls finished second from bottom of the Conference South, but were later reprieved.
