WESTON KICK OFF PRE-SEASON VERSUS EXETER

Weston play their first game of pre-season as we welcome our friends from Exeter City, Tuesday 5th July, 7:45pm ko.

The Grecians make the short journey up the M5, and much has changed since their last visit to BS24 this time last July.

City are now a League One club after finishing second in League Two and gaining automatic promotion, alongside fellow West Country clubs Forest Green and Bristol Rovers.

In that game a year ago, Weston won 2-1 thanks to Dayle Grubb’s penalty and a Lucas Vowles header.

Exeter are likely to include former Weston loanee Matt Jay in their squad for this fixture, as both clubs will be keen to use this game to build fitness and momentum ahead of their vital league campaigns for the 2022/23 season.

Other players expected to play some part; who have featured for both The Seagulls and The Grecians; will be Jacob Jagger Cane, Archie Collins, Sonny Cox, Jason Pope and our new permanent signing James Dodd. Ex City striker Reuben Reid could well pull on the white shirt of Weston for the first time to add to this list.

While this is Weston’s first fixture of pre-season, The Grecians already have one friendly under their belt after Friday’s 2-1 defeat at fellow Devon side, Tiverton Town. Jevani Brown scored a very late consolation for Exeter as Tom Purrington and Joe O’Loughlin netted for The Yellows.
