WESTON LOOK TO CONTINUE THEIR LEAGUE FORM AGAINST WELLING
This weekend Weston return to home league action when they welcome Welling United and seek to continue their five-match unbeaten streak in the National League South.
After a convincing 3 – 0 win over Brislington in the Somerset Cup on Tuesday night, players such as Irnti Rapai, Jamie Laird and Ash Kington will be seeking a starting place against the Wings. Left winger Dayle Grubb will be looking for his tenth league goal of the campaign come kick-off, with Jake Reid and Lee also looking to get back to scoring ways.
Welling are currently sitting in the play-off places, a point behind seventh-placed Havant & Waterlooville. The Wings come into the game in fine form, with a 4 – 0 win against Chippenham and a 2 – 3 win over Havant in their past two fixtures. Defender Jamie Coyle is Welling’s top scorer at the moment, with four league goals in his 11 league outings so far.
Marc McGregor looked ahead to the game, “The team have been working hard both at training and on the pitch, they have to take their chances when they see them and take the three points whenever they can. We have a strong squad who are gaining more and more belief in themselves with the momentum that they are building up in the league.”
Last season, Weston went unbeaten against the Wings, with a 0 – 2 win away and a 2 – 2 draw at home. Grubb scored a free-kick in both games, making his tally three goals in two games against Welling last season, with current Newport loanee Shawn McCoulsky netting the other goal away to Welling in the 0 – 2 way.
