WESTON TRAVEL TO HARROW BOROUGH IN FIRST 2023 AWAY FIXTURE
Weston play their first away game of 2023 as they head to Harrow Borough this Saturday, 7th January. The game at Earlsmead kicks off at 3pm.
The Seagulls make the journey to the capital looking for their fourth consecutive victory in the Southern League Premier South, the latest win coming against Plymouth Parkway in front of a bumper gate at the Optima Stadium on the Bank Holiday Monday. Jordan Bastin scored the only goal in the second-half in front of the 1,234 crowd.
That was Weston’s first four-figure attendance at home since the fixture with Saturday’s hosts, Harrow. That victory on the final day of last season clinched a play-off spot for Scott Bartlett’s side.
In that game, Harrow took a very early lead to silence the Optima, but Weston fought back and claimed a 2-1 victory as goals from Nick McCootie and Marlon Jackson earned a hard-fought and extremely vital three points.
Harrow also made an early visit to BS24 this season, but this was less of a close encounter as Weston ran out 7-0 winners after braces from Dayle Grubb and Ben Griffith, and one each from James Dodd, Marlon Jackson and Elis Watts. Harrow’s cause was not helped as they were reduced to ten men after an early red card.
While those two wins will be memorable for Weston fans, The Seagulls haven’t always had their own way against their Middlesex opponents. Earlier on in the 2021-22 season, Harrow scored with the last kick of the game at Earlsmead to secure a 1-0 victory for Steve Baker’s side.
Harrow boss Baker is an experienced manager, and he has also guided his team to the Fourth Round proper of this season’s FA Trophy, a great achievement for a Step 3 side. Goals from Kai Brosnan and Billy Leonard earned a 2-1 win at Swindon Supermarine in the last round, and they now host National League team FC Halifax Town seven days after Weston’s visit. Harrow have also dispatched Hayes & Yeading and won on the road at Concord Rangers in the earlier rounds, demonstrating what a dangerous side Harrow can be.
