WESTON VISIT WORTHING IN FINAL CLASH OF 2023/24

Weston play their final game of the Vanarama National League South season as they visit Worthing this Saturday, 20th April. The match kicks off at 3pm.

It’s been an incredibly busy week for The Seagulls, with this fixture coming so soon after Thursday night’s 1-0 victory at Taunton Town, a result that relegated The Peacocks down into Step 3.

On the first anniversary of his memorable hat-trick that clinched the Southern League Premier South title, Marlon Jackson scored the only goal at Wordsworth Drive after his late winner.

Saturday’s opponents, Worthing, are another team looking for points as they aim to finish as high as possible in the Vanarama National League South table, as finishing second or third will mean immediate progression to the play-off semi-finals, and a home tie. Worthing are currently third but can finish as high as second or as ĺow as fifth, so victory for them will be important.

The Rebels are in sparkling form right now, and have won their last five league matches, including a 3-1 win at champions Yeovil Town. In their last game last Saturday, Worthing scored their 100th goal of the season in their excellent 4-2 victory at St Albans. Although The Rebels are prolific in front of goal, the West Sussex club have conceded 70 goals, which is more than any other side in the top-half of the National League South table.

Four of those concessions came in early December at the Optima Stadium, as The Seagulls ran out 4-0 winners. After a goalless first-half, James Dodd opened the scoring after the interval, before Dayle Grubb doubled the lead from the penalty spot.

Jordan Bastin then scored one of the Goal of the Season contenders after his lovely run and finish, and Reuben Reid scored Weston’s fourth and final goal shortly before the end.

With both sides so capable of scoring goals, it looks like it will be another fantastic match to end what has been an extremely pleasing season for The Seagulls.
