WESTON VISIT YATE TOWN IN FA TROPHY

Weston play Yate Town for the second time this season as they head to Lodge Road in an Isuzu FA Trophy Third Qualifying Round tie. The game kicks off at 3pm this Saturday, 8th October.

In the first game in August, Dayle Grubb’s 90th minute penalty secured all three points for The Seagulls on an inclement evening at the Optima Stadium.

Grubb showed nerves of steel to dispatch that late spot-kick with the game evenly poised. Yate had led twice in that game after a deflected Olly Mehew goal and a wonder strike from Barney Soady. Weston equalised twice through an earlier Grubb finish and a shot from Reuben Reid, who made it 2-2 on the stroke of half-time.

The Bluebells come into this game bottom of the Southern League Premier South after a dismal run. Since winning at Hendon on the first day of the season, Yate have failed to pick up a single league victory since.

In last Saturday’s FA Cup Third Qualifying Round tie, the South Gloucestershire side lost 3-0 at hone to Bracknell Town, however Peter Beadle’s side beat Slimbridge 3-0 on Tuesday in the GFA Cup, which might help breed some confidence in the Yate camp.

A lack of belief certainly won’t be a problem for Scott Bartlett’s side as they remain unbeaten in all competitions this season, the latest victory was achieved on Tuesday against Shepton Mallet by a youthful Seagulls side. However, Yate will be desperate for a change of fortunes and they have players with good attacking threat that Weston will need to be mindful of.

If the score is level after 90 minutes, the game will go straight to penalties (no extra-time will be played).
