YOUNG SEAGULLS BOW OUT OF FA YOUTH CUP

The Young Seagulls were knocked out of the FA Youth Cup at the hands of Aldershot Town with a 3-0 defeat.

The game started in a lively fashion with both goalkeepers being called into action within the first five minutes but neither being all to troubled.

Aldershot then looked to take a hold of the game with Freddie Butchers in the Weston goal having to keep the hosts at bay.

Despite the pressure from Aldershot, Weston managed to keep the ball well and retain possession within the first 30 minutes.

A moment of controversy sparked just before the half-hour mark when Marc Nouble was seemingly dragged back by Sam Pinchbeck but the officials deemed it legal and waved play on.

Moments later Nouble was involved in setting up the evening’s first goal. He beat the offside trap before squaring across to Danny-James Carter to fire into an empty net.

Weston defended resolutely for the remainder of the first period managing to go into the break just 1-0 down and still firmly in the tie.

HALF TIME: Aldershot Town U18s 1-0 Weston-super-Mare U18s

Weston flew out of the blocks in the second half with Harry Smith looking to cause trouble down the right side but his cross somehow evaded everybody.

However, just moments later the hosts had doubled their lead. In similar fashion to the first goal, the ball was this time squared by Toby Nelson to Eddie Cooper who duly converted into an empty net.

The Young Seagulls grew into the second half following the second goal and Alex Walder in the Aldershot goal was forced into a couple of saves to protect his clean sheet.

The tied was all but sealed not long after the hour mark when Nouble collected the ball about 25 yards out and curled his effort into the very top right corner to make it 3-0.

Weston didn’t give up despite now trailing by 3 and continued to fight until the final whistle. Unfortunately Aldershot managed the game expertly and deserved their 3-0 victory.
